PART 7: Giacomelli's Wines

A) About the Wines of Roberto Giacomelli:

Everyday Giacomelli and his associates are present in their vineyards to take care of the growth of the plants, the soil and the precautions against pests and diseases. They insist that this commitment is repaid by the quality of the wines, loved all over the world. They believe their passion and experience create an expert and enthusiastic blend in their winemaking. Giacomelli and his winemakers have a combined desire to create unique aromas and flavors that embody the land and the culture.

B) The Importance of their Land:

Giacomelli says that, “The love for oenology is also love for its fruit, which we see grow from day to day in the wake of wine passion”. It is from their vineyards and wine making room that everything starts. They have around a dozen hectares of vineyards in their company. It is from there that they start to create their wine, or an expression of their territory. The grape grown on their land are those of their grandparents who have always been raised there in the Colli di Luni.

C) Grapes:

The variant of Vermentino is the principal grape Giacomelli works with, followed by other white grape varieties such as Albarola, the Tuscan Trebbiano and the aromatic Malvasia di Candia. Although this land is best for white grape varietals as its terrain is affected by the river, sea, and salt of the Cinque Terre, it is also linked to the red berry, present in lower quantities than the white, and expressed with the Tuscan Sangiovese, Merlot and Canaiolo.
